Agree to GDPR?

GDPR

GDPR = General Data Protection Regulation.

Some people, in their terms and conditions checkboxes, use things like „Do you agree with the GDPR terms?”.

But that’s a rather lazy way of getting out of doing your work.

One should find out the exact criteria GDPR requires for the website and apply them to the website.

You can’t just say, „Do you agree with everything?”.

That’s not how things work.

One should agree to specific terms and conditions, not all.

Also, when not linking to GDPR itself, you expect people to know GDPR by heart. That’s pretty much absurd.

Future winnings

Future WorkForce startup, UiPath certified, helps HR specialists automatically generate certificates for employees who must go to work during this period

If you look 20, 40, or 60 years ago at sports competitions and compare them with the situation of today, you might notice that lots of things have changed in team preparation. New techniques, new methods.

This likely means that 20 years from now, we’ll look at the current day and say, „we were so obsolete!”.

The solution? Try to innovate and don’t think that if everyone else is doing things a certain way, that’s the optimal solution.

In which language to hold an online conference?

Karl Davison - Bluetooth Speaker Grille

Let’s say you have an online conference in two languages (Romanian + English, for example).

Some speakers know English, others know Romanian.

You might be tempted to ask the visitors – do you prefer English/Romanian?

But there’s another option – the standard should be both English and Romanian, and the translation should be optional.

If you assume the visitors only know one language, you might annoy those visitors that speak both languages.

Why you shouldn’t use special characters to simulate styling (bold/italics/small caps etc.)?

ClaraDon - Bending Da Font

Let’s say you have a text to send as plain text.

You could write the title without any special markup (because we’re talking about the plain text), or you might choose a special effect such as:

  • Bold (serif): 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭
  • Italic Bold (serif): 𝒕𝒆𝒙𝒕
  • Double-Struck: 𝕥𝕖𝕩𝕥

The list can go on and on: ••¤(`× 🎀 𝓉𝑒𝓍𝓉 🎀 ×`(¤••

On one-page websites

junaidrao - #Design The imposing “Atomium”, designed by Belgian engineer André Waterkeyn to depict nine iron atoms in the shape of the cubic cell of an iron crystal. While long clad in aluminium, it is now more appropriately clad in steel. [4833 x 3254][OC]

I like one-page websites quite a bit.

A single, long page, where you add all the basic information (who you are, the services/products you offer, contact details), all in one place.

You could add things like Terms and Conditions, a Privacy Policy, and perhaps a blog, but, all-in-all, you could do a lot of things by having just a single page.

Find such examples here: One Page WordPress Themes from ThemeForest.

Sometimes, you can’t do a one-page website; you might need something more complex.

But if the project scope allows for it, I suggest you go for it – create a one-page website.

Parody movies and dramas on IMDb ratings

The Batman

I like parody movies. They entertain me and force me to try and understand references. But this kind of movie tends to be a bit silly. Also, they tend to get low IMDb ratings.

On the other hand, there are quite some well-made movies, like dramas or suspenseful movies. These movies might leave you in an unhappy state. But, because they’re smart, well-made, and put you into a certain setting, they tend to get high ratings.

Yet, at the end of the day, I’ll be happy and a bit smarter watching a silly parody movie, while if I watch a drama, I might be a bit upset and with a poor movie.

IMDb’s ratings are not everything.

Correctly evaluating your chances

Don Sniegowski - What risk? Our proven system will lead you to a land of milk and honey essentially risk free

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.” ― John A. Shedd

„The dogs bark, but the caravan goes on.” (Proverb)

Let’s say you want to ride a motorcycle.

You evaluate the chances of an accident; then you take some lessons, you take your driver’s license, you buy a bike, and you drive carefully.

Yes, accidents of motorcyclists are happening with a higher percentage. But if you take all the precautions, you can stay confident.

You have polyps (definition: Polyps are tissue growths that most often look like small, flat bumps or tiny mushroom-like stalks. Most polyps are small and less than half an inch wide.). You decide to have surgery.

Yes, some complications can appear, but if you are well-informed prior to the procedure, you can be confident.

In a lot of situations, you need to take a leap of faith. You don’t know exactly where you’ll land, but if you don’t take any chances at all, most likely, you’re making a worse decision than when taking some calculated risks.
