Usability tip: Why remove the voucher from the shopping cart?

Usability tip: Why remove the voucher from the shopping cart?

You may have seen this from time to time: you want to order a product and this pops-up: What’s the problem with it? It makes you want to leave the basket, go to Google and search for a voucher. There are three scenarios: Your client finds a voucher, he returns to your shopping cart, and gives you a cheaper order. You’ve just lost money. What happens if the client doesn’t find the voucher? He might be frustrated, and look for products someplace else, since your brand just got a bit more annoying („ah, they do give vouchers, but not to me! Bastards!”). Even if the client does return, he will feel frustrated, he will probably feel he is losing some money. Not so good. My opinion? When you give a voucher, also give a link which the client should use in order to make an order on your web site. Without that link, the customer won’t see the voucher field anywhere.

Hi, Gary R. BEAL, clinics to Vanguard Online Media (GaryTheScubaGuy) said at GPEC conferences to the following tip (approximate quote): Even if you’re #1 on organic searches on Google, do use AdWords ads for better results. So, you have #1 position on organic searches on Google. Why should you bother for the ad? The reasons are: You can get there much easily/cheaper than your competitors. You occupy yet another spot on SERP. You may actually improve the clickthrough rate of #1 organic spot if you do an ad. Nice tip.

Hi, Gary R. BEAL, clinics to Vanguard Online Media (GaryTheScubaGuy) said at GPEC conferences to the following tip (approximate quote): Use misspellings for better SEO rankings. Right now, Google does have solutions for misspellings, like: Redirecting people to a new search (most of the times). Presenting an option with the words written correctly. But sometimes, you can get some advantages by using misspellings as keywords.

Providing help when it’s needed – but not too much

Providing help when it's needed - but not too much

I like being offered help when I need it. For example, the best place to put a warning on electric danger may well be in the area with the electric appliances.

If you want to make a list to things to remember to do while in the car, put that list in the car.

In the online, it’s even simpler – whenever you use a function, you are given options and suggestions for it. You can change a status in Facebook for example, by hovering the mouse over the status, then clicking in the upper right are of the status message itself.

„It helps”

I am sometimes asked: How to be a successful SEO? How to build the perfect site? How to build the perfect blog? How to create the perfect newsletter? The answer to these is given by these: If you do apply all the rules for SEO, site/blog building, newsletter creation, you will have done a product which is 30% (or so) fine. If you want to strive to get to 100%, the other 70% (or so) is made by other things than: Good crawling structure / nice links for SEO. Good content / graphics for the web site. Great content for the blog. Nice news to post on the newsletter. I surely can give you a lot of tips & tricks on making a product successful. But, even by following my advice, you can only get 30% of what you can get. You still need passion, excitement, dedicated work, knowledge. The SEO process / web site / blog / newsletter is a tool. You need other things than just a tool to be successful.
