Three columns for years on forms
A lot of times, when developers choose how the users can pick the year of birth, they go for a single column.
How about this alternative? When you choose the year of birth, on your mobile phone, don’t have it in one column, but in three.
Example – create a mobile account on Solved Now – Apps on Google Play.
You’ll get to see an option to pick the year from three columns, as opposed of just one.

În prezentarea „Business interruption, plan și măsuri de prevenție antirisc” (Gomag Virtual Summit 2022), ținută de Alin Trușcă, mi-am notat unele idei.
Mai jos, cu citare foarte aproximativă și feedback-ul meu.
- E o idee bună să îți faci asigurări la unele lucruri care se pot întâmpla rău într-un business (incendiu, de exemplu).
- Despre business-ul EVOhoreca: noi vindem încredere, nu mobilier. Mi-a plăcut mult ideea aceasta. E unul din motivele pentru care prefer să cumpăr de la eMAG, PC Garage, F64.
- Brandingul face parte din creșterea încrederii în ochii clienților. E un aspect dificil de gestionat, iar în etapa inițială a unui business e atât de scump, că poate fi nerentabil.
- Modul în care citești te dezvoltă ca persoană. E bine să citești genuri diverse, nu doar lecturi de business. Eu personal recomand și un jurnal, public sau nu.
- Fă periodic o introspecție – vezi unde te afli în plan personal.
Negative reviews
I consider that when a website/product/service/person has both positive and negative reviews, the negative reviews actually make the subject shine.
If I see a product filled with extremely positive reviews, and no negative one, I might wonder:
- Are the reviews fake?
- Are the negative reviews removed from the website?
Both of these would be a bad signal for the quality of the product.
Comparing with competitors
Why isn’t good to compare yourself with many small competitors, and it’s good to look at the big ones?
The big ones are testing.
If Amazon puts something in black and white, it’s clear that you need to do something similar.
They make the best decisions because it costs them a lot to be wrong, so they spend time on each issue.
5 of your small competitors don’t do that.
Balance between negative and positive
When you write a blog post, a page, or any other type of content, consider this: try to look for a balance between positive (promise, future, hope) and negative (past, analysis, criticism, fear, fear suggestion) in most texts. For example, you can be negative in describing a problem or potential problem and positive in expressing a solution.
You can even use these two in the same phrase:
„Reading blog posts can harm your eyes, on the other hand, it can give you fresh new ideas”.
„Our products avoid issues with ecology, and are also child-friendly”.
Or, write two phrases:
„I love this new pair of shoes. They help me avoid knee issues”.
„I really enjoy the glasses. They are lightweight and also help me with costs”.
Products per page for an online store
If you have an online store, you might need to have pagination, at least for some categories.
Some people choose to put 2 products per row, others 3, others 5.
What’s an optimal solution?
In my opinion, it’s actually not the number of items per row (it’s important, too), but the total number of items per page.
I suggest a multiple of 12 – 12 products per page, or 24, or 36, or 48. You get the picture.
Why is that?
If you show the category page on a large desktop screen, you could show 4 or 6 products per row.
A tablet? 3 products.
A large smartphone? 2 products.
A very small screen? 1 product.
There are lots of numbers that 12 can be divided by (12, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1), and for this reason, it can be a good choice.
