On Vecina (2025) – neighbor

I watched Vecina (2025).

I didn’t like it for two main reasons.

#1 Ethics.
In the film, there are two sides: the neighbor and the others.
The neighbor makes some mistakes, but overall she’s asking for the law to be respected.
The others want everything to be fine, but they also want to ignore the law.
What the ā€œothersā€ do seems to me a form of aggression.
And the ā€œothersā€ are portrayed as cool, fun, entertaining, everything’s pleasant. They are the cool & funny guys, while the neighbor is a negative person.

You can joke about anything, but there’s still such a thing as ethics — and I don’t think the problem in Romania is that people respect the law too much, or that they care too much about it.
If you make jokes about abuse, it may be legally allowed, but it’s not exactly OK.

It reminded me of a recent news story:

ā€œYoung man from Ilfov threatened with beating by neighbors after calling Distrigazā€ – YouTube

#2 The narrative line.
There’s only one storyline, no subplots.
One topic, no secondary threads.
Also, just one emotion — laughter — and nothing else throughout the entire film.
It’s possible to create a comedy movie focused strictly on humor and nothing else, but it’s a difficult thing to pull off.
And I don’t think they succeeded.
