I watched Vecina (2025).
I didnāt like it for two main reasons.
#1 Ethics.
In the film, there are two sides: the neighbor and the others.
The neighbor makes some mistakes, but overall sheās asking for the law to be respected.
The others want everything to be fine, but they also want to ignore the law.
What the āothersā do seems to me a form of aggression.
And the āothersā are portrayed as cool, fun, entertaining, everythingās pleasant. They are the cool & funny guys, while the neighbor is a negative person.
You can joke about anything, but thereās still such a thing as ethics ā and I donāt think the problem in Romania is that people respect the law too much, or that they care too much about it.
If you make jokes about abuse, it may be legally allowed, but itās not exactly OK.
It reminded me of a recent news story:
āYoung man from Ilfov threatened with beating by neighbors after calling Distrigazā ā YouTube
#2 The narrative line.
Thereās only one storyline, no subplots.
One topic, no secondary threads.
Also, just one emotion ā laughter ā and nothing else throughout the entire film.
Itās possible to create a comedy movie focused strictly on humor and nothing else, but itās a difficult thing to pull off.
And I donāt think they succeeded.
