Mi-a plăcut metafora.

Aveți mai jos o imagine cu Mindsetul, determinat de acest tip de soluție.

Am făcut o românească

Iain Merchant - Have you heard of 'Personal Space'!

Gala Galaction’s rats and the good people

Gala Galaction - Wikipedia

In the novel „Papucii lui Mahmud” (Mahmud’s shoes), Gala Galaction (I wrote a detailed article here »), at some point, speaks about a monk who lives in a place alongside rats. I think it’s safe to say that the author (pr. Grigore Pișculescu) considered the repulsion we generally have for rats to be debatable.

In real life, people tend not to like rats for two main reasons: they carry diseases, and they bring damage.

Still, rabbits are seen as cute & nice; foxes have a better view, etc.

There’s more to not liking rats than mere economic reasons, health & hygiene.

I think Gala Galaction tries to signal that this disgust is misplaced. We have reasons to prefer squirrels to rats, but this logic might be wrong.

A parable of the SEO and the church

Opinii ortodoxe adânc formate

In SEO, some techniques work for a while until the search engines (Google, mostly) decide to do something about the issue, and the technique no longer works.

Still, people who don’t do SEO might not be aware of the change, and they might still do SEO based on obsolete practices.

For example, keyword stuffing. Or use lots of keywords (later on, transformed into adding lots of blog post tags). Or trying to show content visible only to Google. Or manipulating backlinks. Or adding <h1> to the logo. Or bolding things just for Google. The list could go on.

Similarly, there were some practices in the past in the church that are no longer true today. People’s minds might be difficult to adapt to the new realities.

Parody movies and dramas on IMDb ratings

The Batman

I like parody movies. They entertain me and force me to try and understand references. But this kind of movie tends to be a bit silly. Also, they tend to get low IMDb ratings.

On the other hand, there are quite some well-made movies, like dramas or suspenseful movies. These movies might leave you in an unhappy state. But, because they’re smart, well-made, and put you into a certain setting, they tend to get high ratings.

Yet, at the end of the day, I’ll be happy and a bit smarter watching a silly parody movie, while if I watch a drama, I might be a bit upset and with a poor movie.

IMDb’s ratings are not everything.

Correctly evaluating your chances

Don Sniegowski - What risk? Our proven system will lead you to a land of milk and honey essentially risk free

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.” ― John A. Shedd

„The dogs bark, but the caravan goes on.” (Proverb)

Let’s say you want to ride a motorcycle.

You evaluate the chances of an accident; then you take some lessons, you take your driver’s license, you buy a bike, and you drive carefully.

Yes, accidents of motorcyclists are happening with a higher percentage. But if you take all the precautions, you can stay confident.

You have polyps (definition: Polyps are tissue growths that most often look like small, flat bumps or tiny mushroom-like stalks. Most polyps are small and less than half an inch wide.). You decide to have surgery.

Yes, some complications can appear, but if you are well-informed prior to the procedure, you can be confident.

In a lot of situations, you need to take a leap of faith. You don’t know exactly where you’ll land, but if you don’t take any chances at all, most likely, you’re making a worse decision than when taking some calculated risks.
