Who am I?

I will answer this question with various thoughts about it. It is irrelevant for most people. If you are close to me, you might be interested in what’s behind my behavior, but for most people the behavior alone should suffice. It is a little arrogant to consider people would really want to know the answer to this. Most answers to „Who am I?” come not from self-analysis, but from comparison. I compare myself to others, and give a result. Thus, it is more efficient to focus on getting new experiences & a bigger network, rather than trying hard to focus on myself. “Stereotyping becomes mathematically more dangerous the more people you meet.” (Rand Fishkin – 24 Things I Know Now That I Wish I Knew Then – Rand’s Blog)  In Groundhog Day (1993) – IMDb the main character, played by Bill Murray, is at first both despising pretty much everyone and mimicking he is a nice person. Love transforms him and he changes all his behavior accordingly. One friend recently told me I mean a lot to him. The thought scared me, and I didn’t have an equivalent reply to him. My life is pretty much into despising everyone. The rare exceptions of people I don’t despise is not due to the fact that they have no faults, but rather that I tend to blind myself, and ignore everything else but their single trait/quality/deed which makes them important to me. What do I ask of someone in order to like that person? The impossible made possible. Bogdan Naumovici once said at a conference, …

Two motivating persons in my life

I once had a Sony camera. Time passed, I had a new one. I was very proud with the photos I took. I show them to a friend. He was very critical. Not sharp enough, not enough contrast, poor quality photos. I rejected his comments, and was very puzzled to know that he found my photos to be of poor quality. Years passed, I remained with his critique in my mind. Now, many years after the critique, I agree with him. Most photos I have taken at that time were of poor quality. And I’m not even a real photographer. Another story: I did a web site for a relative of mine. I worked for two days at that web site, I made videos. I was impressed with the result. At the end, I wanted to just go home and have this job considered to be done. The person insisted I stay one more day and work at the web site. I was puzzled. The web site was done, I had worked at it quite a while, and that person considered the web site incomplete. Reluctantly, I stayed one more day. Boy, was I happy to do so. In that day I solved lots of minor imperfections. In the end, the web site proved to be one of the best I had made. The improvement wasn’t from 20 to 90%, but it was from 80 to 90%. And it felt good. Had I stayed a few more days, it would have been even better. You …

Why take part in the same training/workshop again and again?

I’ve been going to Jim Bagnola‘s trainings/workshops for years. I’ve taken part to Intensive NLP by MindMaster (a 5 day training course) two times already, and I plan in taking it again. At times, things repeat themselves. You hear the same things. There’s only so much a person can tell you. Why do I do this? Deeper knowledge. I get to know things better. Re-participating, like re-reading, like re-watching a movie helps reinforce things. I get to know things better. For example, some say in order to be know better a specific subject, you need an advanced course on the subject. Perhaps. But how about retaking the class, in order to better understand and structure what you already know? I have a not-so-great memory, retaking a class helps me better understand things. I’m different. New insights. It’s the same message, I’m different than I was two years ago. I forgot some things, I got new ideas. Things connect differently. The trainings are different. The trainers don’t speak exactly the same way. Yes, the message is pretty much the same, but not identical. You get to see some new faces of the samge message. You become closer to being a researcher. There’s a difference between reading a motto and reading a page. Between reading a page and reading a book. Between reading a book and the whole opera of a person. And between this and researching a subject deeper. There’s one thing to watch a movie and to watch a TV series. There’s a feeling you get …

I don’t have enough trust in myself

There are two options: Trust yourself and act accordingly. Don’t trust yourself so much, and take the consequences. The thing is, as with many simple things, the decision is not so simple. I don’t think there’s a definite answer on this one. There might be situations in which having a poor self-trust will turn out well. In other situations, things differ. I see things go wrong due to too much self-trust. I think it’s more productive in some cases to have self-trust. In others, not. Examples of poor self-trust: You write an article. You value others’ opinions much. Whenever you say something on your own, you need to emphasize „This is my opinion. The personal one”. Someone wants to help you. You don’t think you deserve it. You say no. Someone wants to help you. You don’t think you have the right to say no. You say yes. Good self-trust: You take decisions on your own, without asking for everybody’s permission. You don’t speak of yourself, you speak of a group, even if not everyone is 100% pleased with this. You initiate things and see them through.

„A religious person does something wrong”. Ooo, that’s complicated to analyze. This is quite simple, actually.

A. On a very simple level, you can judge things like this:

  • You have ethics, moral code, religion. You do good.
  • You live without them, you do good or you do less good. You have options.

B. On a little more complicated level:

  • You have ethics, moral code, religion. You try to do good. You fail & do something wrong.
  • You live without them, you do good or you do less good. You have options.

Most people stop at this. „Uuu, look at that person! That person has a moral compass, abides by the rules, has a moral code, follows a religion. If that person does something wrong, the system is wrong”. Actually, I think that it’s quite natural for the religious person to do wrong. It’s a very simple step.

C. I think there’s a third level to all these, in which nothing is what it seems, anymore. I’ll detail this in this article.

Seeing all the countries in the world

„Graham David Hughes (born 1979) is a British adventurer, filmmaker, television presenter and Guinness World Records holder. Graham successfully visited all United Nations member states without flying.” (source) See the video below: Not a big fan: He spent only a small amount of time in most of the countries. If your objective is just to check a country for a few hours, then to checklist it, OK, he got that. But, generally, people travel with more reasons than check listing – „Oh, I’ll visit them all”. Yes, I admire his perseverance and efforts, and I envy his success. But with all this „let’s get it over with, there are hundreds of countries to visit, hurry!”-philosophy, I’m not a big fan.
