I’ve seen Inside Out 2 (2024).

My thoughts? I recommend you see the first part – Inside Out (2015). I liked the movie a lot; I give it a 10/10.

Should you see it? Not necessarily; I don’t think it’s for everyone. I’ll detail my thoughts below (with spoilers!), I don’t think it’s a great movie for everyone.

But at least a good one? Sure!

Thoughts – with spoilers:

  • „De ce îi este omului de astăzi foame? De iubire și de sens.” – Nicolae Steinhardt în Jurnalul fericirii. The first movie was about love. This movie was about purpose. (love too, but much less so) Note – when I mean „love and purpose,” I mean „emotions and principles,” not necessarily romantic love and spiritual purpose.
  • There’s a book called: „Între Dumnezeu și neamul meu” – Petre Țuțea. In the previous movie, it was about social things (emotions). In this movie, it’s about a higher purpose. Note – it’s not a religious movie, but I think the principle applies well.
  • I like the fact that, unlike the previous iteration, in this movie you are not given a solution. Life is about paradox.
  • I don’t necessarily agree with the principles in the movie, but I liked the play emotions-higher principles.
  • After the movie, I listened to Kansas – Dust in the wind (cover by Margherita Pirri). The movie was not sad, but this was my state. I even wept a bit in the movie, less than in the first movie.
  • I went soon after the movie for a walk-in Tăbăcărie Park in Constanța; it was nice. I photographed some birds.
  • There’s a joke with Ivan Ivanovici. The movie was like a joke – not melancholic, but it gave me a state, I don’t know how to put it.

Who should see the movie? The ones looking for paradoxes and the play between emotions and virtues.

Note—there are two axes—a vertical one for ethics/spirituality/principles/philosophy and a horizontal one for love/emotions/social connections/interactions.

On La sociedad de la nieve (2023)

I liked La sociedad de la nieve (2023). Good movie, not excellent, but good.

One thing, though – it made me think about what people do when faced with extreme situations.

It seems that even in the most complex, most difficult situations, people tend not to use their creativity 100%.

To solve their situation, they had to do two big things. At some point, they did one, and following that, they did another big thing in the movie.

The question is – why did people have to die? What kept them from acting right from the start the way they did?

Even in life-and-death situations, we don’t use our potential enough.

„You’ll die if you don’t do this!”

„Ok.”

Dune – Partea a IIa (2024) – Unul din cele mai bune filme pe care le-am văzut

Am văzut Dune: Part Two (2024). Mi-a plăcut foarte mult!

În “De la noi la Cladova” de Gala Galaction: preotul Tonea spune o rugăciune frumoasă, în care îi cere Divinității să fie puternic, fără sa fie dur, și să fie blând, fără să fie moale. (citat aproximativ).

„O, Stăpâne Sfinte! pune în preajma mea custodia sfinților voievozi și ajută-mi să fiu puternic fără de cruzime și uman fără de întinare!” – Gala Galaction (Grigore Pișculescu), în „De la noi, la Cladova”

Cam așa și în film, personajele pozitive sunt puternice și blânde, pe când cele negative sunt dure și moi.

Personajele negative aveau uneori niște acțiuni barbare, simțeai răul.

În The Dark Knight (2008) exista și în personajele bune ceva rău, așa și aici. Nici binele, nici răul nu sunt absolute.

Mi s-a părut că filmul are o cursivitate și fluență, trecerea de la o scenă la alta părea firească, filmul a avut o coerență și o imagine de ansamblu bune.

Mi se pare, alături de multe filme ale lui Christopher Nolan, un film de văzut la cinema.

M-a făcut să mă gândesc la citatul: „Întoarce-te în casa ta și spune cât bine ți-a făcut ție Dumnezeu.” (Luca 8:39)

În unele filme, suspansul e tras de păr. Bătălii lungi, conflicte eterne, aici nu – lucrurile se rezolvă în general foarte rapid.

Personajele nu sunt super eroi, ci oameni cu vulnerabilități. Poți să te identifici cu ele.

E genul de film pe care poți să îl recomanzi și altora.

Why I don’t review bad books/places/movies/music

I don't judge people on their worst mistakes.

Sometimes, I read warnings – „This is a poor movie/book/song/place.”

The thing is, if we consider the Pareto principle to be true, most of the things out there are of poor quality.

If 80% of things are bad, and out of the good 20, another 80% is not that great, it brings little value to mention what is of poor quality.

Also, it doesn’t take much to determine whether a movie is worth seeing or not.

On the other hand, if we are talking about something debatable and with lots of pros/cons, in this case, yes, I want to hear some opinions.

For example, choosing to spend a vacation in a place brings a lot of factors to weigh in.

Again, choosing to live in a place/country requires many things to look at.

Sure, it’s not a bad thing to mention „Oh, you’ll waste your time by watching the movie X”.

OK, that’s not bad, although I could surely get that information elsewhere.

Also, if I can, I will write to the author of something and give them negative feedback (not in all cases, of course; otherwise, I’d spend my waking time writing complaint emails).

Also, I prefer not to give definitive solutions – This movie is 100% good/bad. It might be that I like it/dislike it, but it’s almost certainly not 100% good/bad.

It’s also of low importance. The reviews of the Napoleon movie tend to be negative. But there are other criteria for watching the movie.

In conclusion, I prefer to give positive, not negative, recommendations and debate the „big” themes.

The lone ranger – the only solution in life

I think it’s worthwhile to be the only person doing a certain thing.

Why keep voting, even if your vote doesn’t seem to count?

Why keep an Eco-friendly life (as much as you possibly can), when the planet seems to go down?

Why keep insisting on doing what you perceive is good despite the seemingly low impact?

Also read: The starfish story – The Robert D. and Billie Ray Center.

The answer is this – because it’s worthwhile. Because it’s the right thing to do. Because you can set an example even if no one follows it.

On a practical level, a new iPhone appeared recently. Do you think that people who weep at Avatar (franchise) would think twice about buying the most powerful and newest iPhone?

„Yes, the planet is doomed, but I need the iPhone!”.

No you likely don’t, while the planet will likely suffer.

The iPhone might look like a silly example, but pretty much no one seems to comment, „Oh, by buying an iPhone, you doom the future of the planet!”.

All people seem to think is along the lines of „Oh, but I need it!”. Likely, you don’t.

I’m not saying you should live in a cave, but most people living today don’t need the most powerful phone.

And if you say that Apple does good things for the planet, I’m not to judge that, but it’s impossible to create a $1,000+ product and not have a big impact on the environment. No matter what.

Tell a person buying cryptocurrency that they’re harming the plant. „Who cares?”.

It’s disheartening.

There’s just one solution in life – keep insisting on the good things. Keep doing it. Save the starfish and matter for that precious little being’s life!

Despre Sisu (2022)

Cu acest site puteți vedea când apare un film într-o țară pe platformele de streaming: Sisu streaming: unde puteți urmări filme online?

Mi-a plăcut filmul Sisu (2022).

Mi-a adus aminte de Quentin Tarantino (după violență), în special de Inglourious Basterds (2009).

M-a mai făcut să mă gândesc la Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) și The Harder They Fall (2021), tot pentru scenele de acțiune.

De asemenea, ca în Seria Bourne (2002-2012), în general eroul scapă de probleme nu prin forța brută sau dexteritate, ci folosindu-și creativitatea.

Are suspans, nu trăiești tot timpul cu ideea „hai să vedem cum o să învingă și de data asta”.

Opinia mea e că merită o notă mult mai mare decât 6.9 pe IMDb, cu doar 34.000 de voturi.
