We tend to like local things (food, music, places), although the world is BIG

Onasill ~ Bill - Be Safe & Happy - Kingston Ontario - Canada - Cooke's Fine Foods and Coffee - Since 1865

People in Turkey like Turkish food.

People in certain areas of Romania like things specific to Romania and specific to their region.

If in a family, food is cooked in a certain way (a lot of salt, a a lot of sugar, even burned food), the family members will get used to that way of cooking.

To me, this is a bit paradoxical. I like to test new things to find out what I like.

One small step

Thank you note

Generally, in life, there are situations when even a slight change can lead to major outcomes.

A minuscule thing, a small thing, a tiny thing – all these could lead to big changes.

There’s only a tiny difference between something good or evil.

A rotten apple is still, basically, an apple.

A poisoned apple is mostly an apple.

That minuscule change changes everything.

And a quote by Nicolae SteinhardtThe Diary of Happiness:

Apa, dacă e pusă la fiert, începe a emite aburi pe la 60°, zice dr-ul Al-G., dar de fiert nu fierbe decât la 100° şi apa fiartă e cu totul altceva decât apa caldă sau apa care e aproape fiartă ori pe punctul de a fierbe. Fierberea e un fenomen nou, de neînlocuit, de neasemuit, e surpriză, motiv de mirare.

Virtue and sin are separated by a needle.

Audentes Fortuna Iuvat – Fortune favours the bold/the brave

J Swanstrom (Never enough time...) - Memory Without Emotion

I like this quote:

„Fortune favours the bold” – Wikipedia

When you want to start something, when you plan to do an action, when you try to do something from scratch, obstacles may arise.

But leaving yourself to fate will generally bring results, although perhaps unexpected.

This is quite the opposite of the black swan theory.

There’s always risk involved, bad things can and might happen, but you should always remember that nature favours the bold.

Fuckup Nights Bucharest, 19th edition: Mihai Panfil – founder of Origo Coffee, Gina Matei – Leadership Coach and co-founder of Performant Company, Gabriel Diaconu – Psychiatrist and Matei Stănculescu – Psychotherapist and co-founder of Eka Center, reveal new perspectives on failure

Fuckup Nights Bucharest, 19th edition

Psychiatrist Gabriel Diaconu: „Failure should help people become, not fall. Without failing, without falling apart sometimes, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Bucharest, November 15, 2023: Mihai Panfil – founder of Origo Coffee, Gina Matei – Leadership Coach and co-founder of Performant Company, Gabriel Diaconu – Psychiatrist and Matei Stănculescu – Psychotherapist and co-founder of Eka Center, share the obstacles and failures that have reshaped their definition of success at the 19th edition of Fuckup Nights Bucharest (FUN).

The event will take place at Stup on Monday 20 November, starting at 18:30. Registration is open and free of charge on the Stup platform, with limited seats available.

In a world where success seems the only currency, Fuckup Nights Bucharest explores the less glamorous but essential side of progress: failure.

FUN XIX brings together four successful people who embrace failure as an opportunity for growth and development. Mihai Panfil, Gina Matei, Gabriel Diaconu and Matei Stanculescu will talk openly about how they turned failure into an advantage, redefining failure as a fundamental element in their professional journey. Each talk will conclude with an interactive session, giving attendees the opportunity to enter an open dialogue with the speakers about the lessons of failure.

The event will be moderated by radio and TV journalist Julia Nagy.

Cynical

Anyone can relate - 9GAG

Let’s say you want to help everyone without any discernment. You help your colleagues at work, you help anyone who asks for your help, and you say „Yes!” to everything.

What will likely happen? You’ll have trouble finishing your own tasks at work, you’ll help people who will use your help for bad purposes, you’ll be overwhelmed with tasks, be constantly tired, and always do your work poorly.

What started out as a good thing proves to be wrong.

You might be so shy that you are afraid to start a conversation with a potential sweetheart. You are so afraid of speaking in public that you don’t attend events. Furthermore, you don’t like networking, so you never initiate conversations.

A cynical, brave, careless, self-centered person might do some things better than a good person at the above things.

I’m not suggesting you become an evil person. I think, as others also do, that bad deeds and evil things can be done very easily; it’s very easy to harm or hurt someone.

But I do suggest not always to consider that a cynical person has only faults.

Raining cats and dogs

DORIS META F - Ganz schön schwer wenn man 4 Beine sortieren, rennen soll und eigentlich in der Bahn bleiben sollte

„It’s raining cats and dogs!” (via »)

I used to like dogs and, to a lesser degree, cats.

After some time passed, I noticed I liked dogs more than cats.

Thinking about the situation, I noticed I actually like dogs the same as cats, but I have a negative association with them – I’m afraid of stray dogs, and I associate my feelings for all dogs with this.

It’s like when adding a nice song as a tune for your mobile phone – after a while, it might disturb you, since you associate getting a call, generally, with getting a task, which you might not like.

It’s the same with dogs – I like them, but since I associate all dogs with stray dogs, I have a tendency to consider I don’t like them as much.

Which is false – I like both cats and dogs, rather equally. (with some variation, of course)
