Usability audits (very complex) I have made

Generally, a very complex audit made by me is private. The ones below are public: RO: Review complex site: emag.ro, evomag.ro, pcgarage.ro, dol.ro/magazin, sigmanet.ro – analiză comparativă pentru 5 magazine online din România + concluzii utilizare rețele sociale: Olivian Breda RO: Site review, generare de idei şi analiză SEO pentru beta.imobiliare.ro: Olivian Breda (no examples in English, sorry) A check-up of implementation, for a small review, not a complex one: How was my feed back on a social networking web site for having success as a business professional – succesul.ro implemented?: Olivian Breda

„I want a *simple* web site”

Some clients come to me, telling me they have little expectations for how they wish the web site to look like. Simple colors, simple interface, little number of elements. Thus, the choice becomes clear – they want a very basic theme for WordPress, a free one. Then time passes and they start wishing for things. And the things for which they wish tend to get more complicated and expensive to implement. Also, good made simplicity doesn’t come from not having anything and adding something (so, to start from scratch and put a black line there and there), but from cutting things (eliminate some design elements). Generally, it proves, it would have been better to start with a premium theme. If not, there is a bigger premium to be paid.

The power of free

dan-snapshotDan Ariely wrote about the power of the free:

The results indicate that the power of “free” is surprisingly influential.  When we face a decision about a tattoo, one would hope that the long term permanency of the decision, coupled with the risks of getting different types of infections would cause people to pay little attention to price, and certainly not to be swayed one way or another by the power of free.  But sadly, the reality (at list in the nightclub scene in New York) suggests that the power of free can get us to make many foolish decisions. So, for one, the free makes you do things you wouldn’t normally do. But, after you get something which has some value to you for free, you may also get another feeling – grateful, thankful, obliged even. I want to talk about this matter.
