I read some technology bloggers (tech bloggers).
It keeps surprising me that these bloggers think they write about technology.
I think it’s not the technology, but how they present it, how they react to it, and finally – how do they make me, the reader, feel.
I like how nwradu (Radu Dumitru) writes, but it’s not necessarily for what he says (I’m not an expert in technology, I can’t judge well enough), but for the way he makes me feel when I read something written by him. Of course, you need to know some things about technology, but after a while, the emotions matter more.
I keep reading other bloggers, and they focus on the technical parts. nwradu makes his articles funny. It’s a pleasure to read him.
I watch some chess bloggers:
- GothamChess – YouTube; (I watch him the most)
- Square One Chess – YouTube; (less so)
- Anna Cramling – YouTube. (even less so)
Why? They all make me feel good, laugh, and so on. They all have different way of expressing, and it’s quite nice.
I realize that no matter how much I try, I will likely never be #1 in the world at chess, and likely not even in the top 1,000 in the world, so why not feel good, while also learning some things?
I am not at such a high level as to be able to understand perfectly a game by top chess players. Even if YouTubers try to explain it, I might not be able to understand it.
But I still try to do so, and if I’m entertained in the process, I think it’s a good thing.
I recently met a business person wanting to improve his skills by joining a public speaking club. I suggested, much rather, to take theatrical classes. Public speaking is generally very formal. Theatrical – much more creativity, emotions, variety.
For technology bloggers – do what nwradu does – read Science Fiction, and do your best to be funny. It’s really not about the RAM, capacity, and speed. It’s about how I feel when I read you.
As a conclusion, I would focus more on “life”, and less on “formal business” or “precise technology”. Where “life” is: reading forms of literature (SF is fine), doing theater, and going into arts.
As an example, I prefer to see some emotions about the latest phone, to get some insights while also being entertained. I prefer to enjoy a presentation for emotions, not for speaking in the perfect way. I prefer to have fun while watching chess, rather than being all rational.
If you like chess, you should dive into Dina Belenkaya and maybe the Botez sisters (Romanians who moved to Canada).
I hope you watch these chess player you mentioned on Twitch, live.
Thank you, Dragoș, for the tip. I will be sure to watch a few videos of your recommended YouTubers.
Generally, I watch on YouTube, but I’ll take a look on Twitch.
Have a nice evening!
