The boy should learn on my classes!

There was a story on vinyl discs when I was little, a story about the life of author Hans-Christian Andersen. I couldn’t find the story online.

In the story, it was told that the boy liked to read outside of school. One teacher was upset: “He had better learn what I teach, not read extra things!”. (“Mie să-mi știe lecțiile!”)

While it’s admirable that the boy wanted to read extra, the teacher did have a point.

Yes, perhaps it’s rather silly that all children should read so-and-so lesson, rather than focus on growing in general, even outside the curriculum, but once you accept the curriculum, the teacher just imposed what was natural.

If you have a problem with a kid needing to learn the curriculum, then you have a problem with the educational system, not with the teacher

There’s a tendency in life to look for extra things when analyzing a situation.

But you do have to accept that there are some rules.

There always is a context; there’s always more to be known than what rises to the surface. On the other hand, even if you have all the justifications in the world, in the end it matters if your actions succeed.

You can be a very tired football player, but at the end of the 90-minute game, it matters if your team scored or not.

It’s good and relevant to know the excuses, but the end result is even more important.
