I see people speaking at conferences. Sometimes, they rush it—the moment they get an opportunity to talk on the microphone, they act on it. There is no break, no space.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an optimal solution. The best solution, in my opinion, is to take a small break. Don’t rush it. Take a small break prior to speaking, just for a tiny moment.

Even if it’s a large, important, event, you should take a break before speaking.

When you go from the back of the scene to the microphone, don’t rush it. Take a small moment of a break.

On the same note, speak a bit slower. Don’t rush it in.

Sure, in your mind, it’s easy to form an image of what you are about to say.

But, for most listeners, it’s important to be able to follow you. If you speak too quickly, you might be doing a poor thing.

OK, if you’re taking an exam in foreign languages, speaking quickly might prove that you know the language well.

Also, after making an important assertion, take a small pause.

But for the fun of it, take a break, take some breaks.

There’s just one solution to become better organized – do more things.

If you have 100 files to organize, you might do this task or not. Even if they are not organized, they are just 100 files. You can browse through 100 files.

But if you have 10,000 files to organize, there’s just one option – be organized. You can’t browse through them, you need a system.

If you have 5 meetings, you might remember them. If you have 50 meetings, you need to an organizational solution.

You can’t remember 50 meetings, thus you need to become organized.

Of course, you can become organized with 5 meetings and 100 files, but there’s less external pressure to do so.

If I’m not at home and someone sends me an important message on WhatsApp / SMS/text message, there is an issue: if I open the message, I will not see it as unread at home.

The solution is simple: copy & paste the message to a notes app, and, also, always reply to the message with a question, asking for a reply.

Thus, when you get the second message, you will have an unread message at home.

Sometimes, at conferences, companies give participants goodies.

My tip for them: give very quality items if you sponsor multiple events.

For example, the pencils from Fan Courier are in a class of their own. They’re top quality, and it’s hard to find better pens.

Whenever I go to a conference, I pretty much know that if Fan Courier is a sponsor, they’ll give away some quality products.

So, what to do?

• Give quality items if you participate in multiple events;
• Keep the quality consistent; you can increase the quality level, never decrease it; if you give a good pen today, keep the quality for the future;
• Think of products that your audience will use; for example, it’s rather unlikely people will use a keychain with a large logo of a brand.

Sometimes, you see the agenda at some conferences: „We start the conference at 7 PM”.

And you go there, and it actually starts a bit later, 10 or 15 minutes later.

I used to organize a series of events, and when we started announcing, „We will start at 7 PM,” but we actually started at 7:10 – 7:15 PM (so 10/15 minutes later), people would get accustomed to this and would start arriving late.

The solution? Start on time; people will appreciate this and be there at 7 PM sharp.

Also, if some people are late, consider starting with something less important. Introductions, general overview, a small chat with the audience, anything is better than waiting for 10/15 minutes.

When it comes to ending a conference, meeting, seminar, etc., people tend to be very strict—”We will definitely end the event at 20:30 PM sharp.” I would consider applying the same strictness to starting the event.

If you need to have a prior time to the event for registration, announce it like this: „The event will start at 7 PM sharp, but since 6:30 PM, you can come to the location and do networking, register, and interact with us”.
