Internet with a failsafe solution – in Năvodari, when I don’t have electricity at home, this also happens on the staircase hall, within the block of flats. There is a router in there, so if I don’t have electricity in my house, there’s no cable Internet.

My solution? I connect to my mobile.

An optimal solution? I think it’s best to have two connections to the Internet.

The poorest solution – “there is no Internet, we’re not doing anything.”

Large companies, which depend on Internet, are looking at a backup solution that costs 30-50 lei per month, and an initial investment in a router that is capable of handling two connections to the net at the same time.

For example, such a router would allow an immediate failsafe – if there is no Internet, another connection would take over immediately.

If you have a lot of meetings set up in a short amount of time, consider going to Google Maps, visiting a location, and then shortening the links with the help of bit.ly.

You could then open the links in Google Maps application on your smartphone.

Let’s say you want to scan a card in a non-compatible app on your smartphone.

So, you have an old smartphone, you can’t install app X, but you have a card in there you need to scan.

How to do it?

I found a solution: install the app on a compatible phone, take a screenshot of the card, add the card as an image to the non-compatible smartphone, show the card as an image.

Atypical, but it works fine.

Let’s say you’re in a cab, you don’t have your cell phone with you, and you need to memorize a phone number the cab driver gives you.

How to do it?

In Romania, we have some major telecommunication providers, so, for example, 0743- would belong to Orange, while 0724- would belong to Vodafone.

The lines of separation got very blurry once a person can move the phone number to another provider with ease, but, still, there are some general rules (at least in my mind).

So, the first step – associate the phone number with the provider.

Then, for each provider, remember just the final digit – So 0743, the last digit is 3 (it can differ from the same provider, they might have 0741, 0742, and so on).

For the remaining 6 digits, try and form some associations. “1 less than the birthday of”. “Double of a bad luck number”. “The first two and last two digits are similar due to”.

In my opinion, it’s much easier to remember a rule between digits, rather than try and memorize 6 unique digits.

Microsoft Office has been available for years.

In the past years, a lot of Internet users use the Google Drive suite.

Why do I prefer Microsoft’s version?

• It’s much more snappy and responsive.
• It works great with long documents.
• It has more functionalities.
• It’s faster to work with a lot of documents, at once.

Yes, it lacks a lot on the collaborative part. Also, check spelling on Google Docs is better, due to add-ons such as Grammarly.

I think that adding “don’t know/don’t want to answer” in questionnaires is a good catch-all phrase.

Sometimes, people have issues with the simplest questions.

You ask their phone, but they prefer leaving only an email address.

You ask for their name, but they prefer the questionnaire to be anonymous, without using false data (like giving a false name).

You ask “For how long have you lived in City X?”, but you miss some important detail which makes the question hard to answer.

I’m all in favor of adding “don’t know/don’t want to answer” to questionnaires.
