Up-Set Set-Up

Coming back to the subject of Power – I see this more and more often – people Set themselves Up to be Up-Set.

So, you have two options:

#1 Be upset;

#2 Be happy.

Sometimes, it’s not easy to control, but a lot of time I see others (and, also, myself) choosing to be upset instead of choosing to be happy.

There’s an entire course on being happy: The Science of Well-Being | Yale Online.

I’ve watched it, I consider it very nice, all good.

Yet, sometimes I choose to be up-set, instead of setting-up happiness.

Set-Up for Up-Set. Mind-blowing.

Power

What is „power”?

I think „power” refers to having the strength to do what you consider „good”. It’s not easy at all.

It might look that a person who has a tattoo is brave – they resisted the pain of the procedure.

But what about the power and discipline of a person who keeps their skin clean of tattoos all of their life? I think this is a better way of displaying power.

One important power in life is to resist the pleasure of hate. Hate is easy – all you need to do is be angry, upset, and resentful.

I don’t think that anger, sadness, being upset, and being resentful are good resource states, most of the time.

At times, it might be helpful to be angry, but most of the time, this brings no value.

Procedures

I recently went to a large entity to help with software/hardware issues, although this is far from my first specialization.

Someone, at some point, bought a printer for the entity and made it work for a computer, then another.

Someone else bought another printer and made it work for a couple of computers.

Yet, I am almost certain that there have been issues with connectivity on the new computers.

The people who initially installed the printers left no written procedures.

How do you install another printer?

The computers I worked on had almost always the same issue: how do I install the printer?

No one from the original IT team left a written procedure on how to solve this.

Nicolae-Iordache Iordache has written about procedures and written documentation for doctors.

Computer doctors also need to create procedures and written documentation.

Carpooling

Starting in cities, starting with car-sharing, the economics and safety implications are too big to avoid:

I’m surprised that this hasn’t happened yet.

We have Bolt, we have Uber, we have people paying for a new form of taxis.

Yet, I see almost no one carpooling.

There are options:

No matter where you’re going, by bus or carpool, find the perfect ride from our wide range of destinations and routes at low prices.

Yet, these seem to be much less popular than Uber/Bolt.

Hopefully, with self-driving cars, carpooling will rise (from almost zero, I dare presume).

De ce evit să intru în discuții online?

#1 Dacă pui în fața unor dovezi, fapte, lucruri de netăgăduit, există tendința de a nu recunoaște greșeala. Poți să vii să îi demonstrezi cuiva că greștește, poți să îi aduci dovezi, poți să faci ce vrei. Nimeni nu recunoaște vreodată „Da, am greșit.”.

#2 Dacă pui în fața unor dovezi, fapte, lucruri de netăgăduit, există tendința de a veni cu piste noi. Lămurești ceva, cauți, te zbați, apar teme noi. Dacă faci greșeala să încerci să rezolvi o dilemă, care e răsplata? Apar alte dileme. Se lansează piste noi, în cele din urmă tu fiind persoana care nu știe să răspundă, nu acele persoane că nu recunosc că au greșit, și vin cu piste noi.

#3 Dacă pui în fața unor dovezi, fapte, lucruri de netăgăduit, există tendința de a păstra convingerea. Chiar dacă tocmai am demonstrat, este irelevant. De multe ori, nu e vorba de o căutare a adevărului, ci o luptă pe „i-am tras-o, i-am închis gura, îi arăt eu lui”. Nu e o dilmeă globală, o căutare, o dorință de adevăr.

Din păcate, citatul din Dostoievski este abuzat în multe discuții online. Se caută „calea lui Hristos”, iar ce e evident adevărul e ignorat. Problema e că Hristos nu e în afara adevărului.

#5 Lipsa unei rușini. Dacă cineva mi-ar arăta că am greșit, probabil aș lua niște măsuri. Când cineva își pierde timpul și îmi scrie un răspuns în care e evident că am făcut ceva greșit, caut să iau o măsură. În online, cineva spune un lucru fals, îi arăți că e fals, apoi postează altul.

 

Soluția? Atâta timp cât nu se respectă niște reguli de comunicare, discuțiile din online sunt de cele mai multe ori sterile, rareori fecunde. De evitat, pe cât posibil.

O știre nouă despre o știre veche:

„Titanic n-a avut destule luntri”. Cum a fost relatată tragedia de acum 113 ani de ziarele românești – HotNews.ro:

Doliul nostru devine și mai puternic, scrie Voința Națională: „Ziarul Le Temps din Paris dă, în lista pasagerilor de pe imensul vapor naufragiat, pe d-l și d-na Victor Penescu. Nu știm dacă d-l Penescu, despre care vorbește ziarul parizian, este secretarul legațiunei românești din Paris, dar e cert că naufragiul Titanicului a făcut două victime românești. La durerea omenească cu care am primit vestea înspăimântătorului accident, vine să se adauge durerea de a fi numărat printre victime, și pe doi conaționali.” O abordare care și astăzi ne sună familiar.

Nu sunt cel mai mare fan a afirmațiilor de tipul „au murit nu știu câți oameni și doi români”. Nu mi se pare că sună foarte OK.
