I’ve used anything which was at hand – browser history, Google Web History, software to download data, software to check the history of the browser, other utilities. I ended by having an Excel with 90,000+ entries, after duplicates were removed, representing URLs and titles of the web sites I opened in the past few months. I looked as quickly as you can into a file of this size, and I gave up. The link just wasn’t to be found.

În opinia mea, pe Net nu poți găsi răspunsul la nișa perfectă punând întrebări despre ce nișe să alegi. Poți însă să ai uneltele care să te ajute să îți găsești tu însăți o nișă bună. Părerea lui Rand Fishkin de la SEOmoz pe tema asta: The minimum thing every site owner should do: blog + social networks: Olivian Breda Adică de la asta ar trebui să pornești, când faci magazin online – site + blog + rețele sociale. Asta cu „înainte/după”, sunt mai multe teorii. E teoria care zice să fii bine pregătit înainte de a începe ceva, și e teoria care te aruncă în apă, cu speranța că vei învăța pe parcurs. Eu merg pe a doua. Fă magazinul online, fă și blog, fă cât mai multe și vezi ce se prinde. :)

Contează culorile unui logo în ceea ce privește SEO?

Din ce știu eu, nu. Google are niște principii de bază (nu le știm, însă) pentru asemenea lucruri, însă: a. Influența lor, dacă există, este minoră. b. Criteriul nu ar trebui să fie legat de SEO, ci de uzabilitate, branding, preferințe personale. De logo depind însă și alte elemente, dacă ai un logo închis la culoare, probabil vei avea și un site pe măsură, atunci da, poate fi un criteriu. Însă, repet, e minor. Mult mai important e factorul de readability – cât de ușor de citit e un anumit site?

I like Facebook‘s functions for birthdays a lot. I can synchronize it automatically with Google Calendar, and I can set Google Calendar to send me an email prior to the event. Great functionality. Unfortunately, LinkedIn is much more restrictive, and not only it doesn’t send me notifications of birthdays (or shows me the list of following birthdays), but also isn’t allowing exporting to an application like Google Calendar. Here’s where LinkedIn Birthday Reminders comes along. The application, in a few simple steps, allows you to download the data in a format which can then be later imported into Google Calendar. I find it very effective. The use? Telling people „Happy birthday” is a great way to stay in touch. Also, some people don’t display their birthday on Facebook, but do so on LinkedIn, and you’ll have an advantage if you use this.

How to hide Facebook thumbnail images from a web site?

facebookI recently had this issue on a web site I manage (data is a bit skewed, for simplifcation):

  • Big web site.
  • Three images in the article – A, B, C.
  • Three banners in the sidebar – X, Y, Z.
  • When I tested how Facebook saw the images I was sending, it was correct, Facebook saw I was sending A, B, C.
  • When the article was posted on Facebook, the images Facebook was getting were A, B, X. Huh?

How to solve this?
