Sometimes on Reddit people say „This is an unpopular opinion – So an so”.
Of course, this is a pre-emptive defense. „Now that I said that this is an unpopular opinon, as long as I’ve acknowledged this, I can say whatever I wish”.
Also, if people say „This is an unpopular opinion”, they get likes for their thoughts. „Oh, it looks like this is an unpopular opinion. I agree! LIKE!”.
I don’t like this.
It looks like you are aiming for popular opinions.
It makes me think that the default would be „I want to say things that are a popular opinion”.
I don’t want to say only popular things.
I don’t want to focus on the popularity of my opinions, but on the truth of them.
