Bucharest, 11th of April 2023: The best journalistic material written in 2022 will be awarded at the #Superscrieri12 Gala which takes place in the middle of May.
Superscrieri is an independent initiative of the Friends for Friends Foundation (FFFF.ro), which aims to recognize and honor impactful journalism. The competition aims to highlight powerful stories that inform accurately, touch emotionally and change perceptions.
Theme of this edition: New Generations
The future relies on a well-trained generation that understands the real power of quality journalism. In a world where war and pandemics are causing as yet undefined repercussions, new generations need care, education, guidance and courage. The current issue of Superscrieri puts new generations in the spotlight and encourages them to be engaged and informed.
„Superscrieri #12 is dedicated to open and innovative journalism. I’m happy to discover journalists who are opening their eyes even wider and who understand that technology and creativity go hand in hand to serve the public interest.
The jury has a tough job this year. We have both new and more mature generations, so we have strong competition and a remarkable diversity of perspectives. Congratulations to the nominees and to all the journalists who are mapping reality with every story they tell!”, says Paul Radu, journalist co-founder of RISE Project & OCCRP and President of the Superscrieri Jury.
New category of the competition: Civic Influencers
This year, the jury will choose winners in 9 competition categories: Debut Journalism, Audio/Podcast, Local Press, Opinion, Investigative, Reportage, TV and Video Journalism, Photojournalism and – the new addition – Civic Influencers.
Civic Influencers nominates and rewards creators of social or civic-minded online content, regardless of platform (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, blog, etc.). The category recognizes content creators who bring social issues of general importance to society to the public in a responsible way, encourage civic engagement and educate on various topics.
New members in the Superscrieri Jury
Superscrieri 12 jury consists of: Paul Radu (co-founder OCCRP and RISE Project) – jury president, Alice Iacobescu, Cătălin Striblea, Dan Duca, Dan Radu, Emilia Șercan, Florin Negruțiu, Irina Păcurariu, Marius Comper, Mihai Ghiduc, Mona Dîrțu, Oana Giurgiu, Octav Ganea, Paula Herlo, Robert Schwartz, Vlad Stoicescu.
These are joined by new members: Tudor Mușat, Codruța Simina, Daniel Condurache, Cristian Leonte; Alex Gâlmeanu and Ileana Szasz for the Photojournalism category; Cosmin Pojoranu and Monica Jitariuc for the jury of the category Civic Influencers; Andrei Ciurcanu for judging the special award “Animal Welfare in Romania”.
It is important to note that the conflict of interest rule applies to judging, with each jury member recusing themselves from judging such material/authors.
Readers’ Choice (Superscrierea Cititorilor) Vote
The public becomes an active part of the Superscrieri and is invited to vote here for their favorite of the 46 nominations until 7 May.
In addition to the Yearly Grand Prize (Superscrierea Anului), the most important prize of the competition, the second grand prize, with the same financial value of 3000 euros, is this public prize: the Readers’ Choice.
Superscrieri aims not only to bring recognition to journalists and other authors, but also to encourage the public to be proactive and support their work. Only by having an engaged and involved audience can stories really make an impact.
As every year, the competitive categories will be joined by Honorary Awards offered by the Friends For Friends Foundation in collaboration with the partners of the Superscrieri Gala.
The Gala will also award the special “Animal Welfare” prize of €600, supported by Humane Society International.

About Superscrieri
Superscrieri is, in a way, the tribute we have been paying since 2011 to the authors of such writings – those who, through the strength of their writing, originality, honesty and courage still tell us the stories that matter. To authors who believe in the power of the well-chosen word, show us how things really are, rid us of prejudices and stereotypes, move us, enrich us, and keep us away from fake news. It is to them that we gratefully dedicate our Superscrieri awards, scholarships and seminars.
