Seth Godin: I believe that everyone should write in public. Get a blog. Or use Squidoo or Tumblr or a microblogging site. Use an alias if you like. Turn off comments, certainly–you don’t need more criticism, you need more writing. Do it every day. Every single day. Not a diary, not fiction, but analysis. Clear, crisp, honest writing about what you see in the world. Or want to see. Or teach (in writing). Tell us how to do something. (Sursa ») Știrea:  Despite previously saying the social network wasn’t planning to build a “dislike” button, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed during a Tuesday Q&A session that his company has indeed been working on one. “I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,” Zuckerberg said. “Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.” (Sursa »)

The best way to learn online marketing

The best way to learn online marketing

TL;DR: As far as I suggest, you should learn online marketing by practicing, not by attending classes.

There are two ways of learning programming:

  • Studying for 4 years in a College and then practicing somewhere.
  • Learning by doing. You get a problem, you learn how to solve it, and you increase, step-by-step, the difficulty of programming.

If you’re 18, I think it’s a good idea to learn programming by going to a college. If you’re 30, and want to work full-time, though, I think the former option is the better one. You’ll not be as great a programmer in the beginning, but you’ll learn on the fly.

„Blending, however, does chop fiber into smaller pieces.  How this affects its activity in the body depends on what kind of fiber we’re talking about. An article Lee dug up for me in The Journal of Food Science  notes that grinding up wheat bran reduces its ability to hold water, which presumably decreases its effectiveness in promoting regularity. In fact, one study found that supplementing the diet with very finely ground wheat bran actually caused constipation!

Oat bran on the other hand soaks up more water when you reduce the particle size. There’s also some research suggesting that grinding up vegetable fiber into smaller pieces makes it more effective in reducing cholesterol.

So, I don’t know that we can say that blending „destroys” fiber. But we can certainly conclude that blending „changes” fiber in foods and how they affect the body. Based on my brief tour through the literature, I think I would avoid putting wheat bran in my smoothie.  Flax seed, on the other hand, is really only useful as a source of fiber if you grind it (or chew it up really well). Coarsely ground flax appears to be slightly more effective than finely ground flax…so don’t overdo it.

[…]

I’m afraid there’s no simple answer. Blending or juicing foods can make certain nutrients more absorbable.  It may decrease the effectiveness of some fibers but increase the effectiveness of others. Honestly, I think this falls into the (rather large) category of things that probably aren’t worth worrying about.”

The freemium model in selling information

The freemium model in selling information

If you want to provide information for a premium, using online tools, I suggest you use a freemium model. This means offering information: For free, until you establish yourself as a a brand: Publish things so good / long / impressive, they can’t ignore you & you become a brand with that content. Ask for money, once you are a brand: Now you can sell other things: Consultancy. Conferences. Books. The solution? Offer free until you become a brand & then charge for premium.

Being wrong

Being wrong

I think, at some times, it is not only allowed to make some mistakes, but it’s the only way possible.

When I started to write in English, a few years ago, I used to: (1) not be able to structure information very well and (2) write in a poor English.

I’m far from perfect, but I’m also far from that level.
