Some people say: „I did X for your own good.”
The problem with the above quote is that the person did X for their own good, not mine. It’s such a cheesy line.
Some people like to be lied to, and people need to believe in placebos.
But the feeling of being lied to can be heartbreaking.
Examples in my life:
- „You must be busy; I’ll end the conversation and let you go now …”
- „It’s good for you to do so, as you already like …”
- „You lost the project, but this can make you improve your life on aspect X; so, even if you lost now, you could learn Y, and you’ll benefit from it…”
When can you use this technique? When you want to help someone, they might object.
„I’m giving you this object for free” is not as persuasive as „Please take this object; you need it more than me.” It’s not actually a lie, and people might agree with it.
„Take this object; I don’t actually need it; it’s good for you.”
