Bucharest, October 31, 2025 — As the new school year unfolds, parents are showing a growing interest in professional tutoring and educational support, according to data from HomeRun, the leading online service platform in Romania. While the demand for guitar tutoring is the fastest growing service just as the new school year kicked off, in October, with a 57% year-on-year increase, Mathematics and English private lessons dominate the education category, reflecting parents’ efforts to help their children perform better in school and prepare for exams.
“We see that parents are trying to support their children, and they are looking for tutors who can help them prepare for exams, but also who can guide them as they are trying to enhance or acquire vocational skills, like music lessons. The biggest challenge from customers’ side is to find competent tutors who can adapt to each child’s needs and learning style,” said Bașak Değim Tașpınar, co-CEO of HomeRun. “The network of professionals listed on HomeRun is solid, and parents can find several offers, helping families make informed choices after reading reviews and after reaching out to the qualified professionals in their area.”
In-person learning: steadily growing demand
After a period of high interest in online classes, in-person tutoring is making a strong comeback. In 2025, 71% of all tutoring requests were for face-to-face lessons, compared to 67% in 2024. Only 29% of users preferred online sessions, a shift that signals that parents value the personal connection and focus that comes with individual, in-person lessons—especially for younger students, of 10-14 years, who need more guidance and motivation.
Mathematics lessons are more expensive than English private classes
The average price for a two-hour tutoring session on HomeRun varies depending on the subject and type of instruction. In 2025, parents paid an average of 137 RON for mathematics tutoring, a slight decrease from 138 RON in 2024, while English tutoring saw a small increase, averaging 94 RON per session, up from 88 RON the previous year. As prices remain rather stable, the demand was high at the beginning of the school year, in October, suggesting that parents are increasingly prioritizing education and are willing to invest in qualified, reviewed professionals who can provide personalized attention to their children. Math tutoring remains the most popular choice, with a 9% increase in requests compared to last year, while English tutoring recorded an impressive 168% surge in total demand, reflecting a growing emphasis on foreign language skills and early learning support.
Looking at the overall education category services in 2025, compared to 2024, we see that foreign language tutoring accounts for the largest share of requests, representing 42.5% of all education-related searches. This is closely followed by mathematics tutoring, which makes up 39.4%, confirming the continuous need for academic support in core school subjects. Additionally, arts and leisure courses, such as guitar lessons, singing, or yoga, have gained popularity, comprising around 11% of the total, while academic support services—including Romanian language, physics, logic, and history tutoring—represent just over 7% of all requests. These figures reflect a balanced interest among Romanian families in both academic improvement and creative skill development, with parents increasingly seeking well-rounded learning opportunities for their children.
