Mă uit la facultăți, la destine, la efort, la noroc – cum arătau colegii mei de liceu și școală și cum au ajuns, în prezent; evoluție enormă, profesional nu îi mai recunosc.

Îmi e greu să îmi imaginez oameni care acum conduc companii, vapoare, sunt ingineri pe plan internațional, au reușit în tot felul de antreprize.

E și un destin, e și ceva noroc, e cu siguranță multă muncă și efort.

Multe lucruri pornesc de la ceva simplu – studiezi, depui efort, vezi o ocazie, te arunci, trec anii, te dezvolți în continuare, ajungi într-o poziție bună.

I tend to come back to the past, to revisit old memories.

This quote puts memory back to its designated place – the past.

Lipsa de înțelepciune și cărțile

Mi-a zis o dată un tip pe un forum, acum închis (vorbea de mine, dar se adresa tuturor) – „Uitați, Olivian zice că cititul ajută la dezvoltarea inteligenței. Vi se pare că Olivian e inteligent?”. (ideea fiind că nu eram)

Câteva idei:

  • Se mai dezvoltă omul, pe măsură ce trec anii; consider că sunt mult diferit față de perioada respectivă (anii 2000)
  • Eu ziceam la momentul respectiv ca principiu („lectura ajută”), nu înseamnă că citeam mult, și că mă dădeam ca exemplu („uite ce citit sunt eu, faceți ca mine”); lucru nu neapărat de lăudat, poate ar fi fost mai bine să vorbesc din experiență;
  • Poate am crescut față de abilitatea mea naturală de a lega informații și a reține lucruri;
  • Ca să spui chestii deștepte cititul ajută, dar ai nevoie de memorie bună și abilitatea de a face conexiuni; poți citi mult și să nu ai rezultate, să nu faci conexiuni, să nu inovezi; lectura e o condiție, dar nu o garanție;
  • În viață sunt multe variabile, cititul îți dă un fel de a te raporta la lume, un set de proceduri, niște exemple; dar multe lucruri sunt noi în viață, cărțile îți dau doar niște principii;
  • Tipul era răutăcios; a funcționat tachinarea aceea? Da, evident, dacă după vreo 15-20 de ani eu pomenesc de discuția respectivă.

In a group, there are people who make mistakes, and some who excel at something.

Don’t judge Romania for a blunder, judge it for the average.

In the same way, a living man makes a mistake. Treat it as an exception, and see the average behavior of the person.

If you can, even the best one.

In statistics, there’s a difference between median and average value (mean):

Sometimes the median is used as an alternative to the mean. Just like the mean value, the median also represents the location of a set of numerical data by means of a single number. Roughly speaking, the median is the value that splits the individual data into two halves: the (approximately) 50% largest and 50% lowest data in the collective.

In statistics, sometimes, you’ll need to avoid the extremes. In life, I think it’s also better to look at averages, rather than extremes.

There’s not much of a chemical difference between diamonds and coal. We’re not that different from monkeys. A potato and an apple share similarities.

Yet, I like the 1%, the 5%, the 10% that make the difference.

When running for Olympics, there’s only a tiny difference between the Olympic gold medalist and the person who finishes last in that race.

The worst Olympian athlete in the final race is better at running than the huge majority of people on this Earth.

Still, he finishes last.

Understanding the differences can make you wonder – „What should I do to go from position 8 to first place?”.

Despre „postez mult” pe grupuri de discuții

Legat de „postez mult pe grupuri de discuții” – mi s-a atras la un moment dat atenția că aș posta cam multe mesaje pe un grup de discuții WhatsApp. Pe grupul respectiv apar numeroase mesaje, oricum. Ce fac eu e că postez doar eu, și asta e controlabil „De ce postezi așa mult, eu n-aș posta așa mult”.

Poate fi o problemă de relevanță (postez lucruri relevante?), dar și mai mult de utilitate percepută (postez lucruri utile altora).

Desigur, m-am repliat pe sfatul primit.

Aspectul rămâne însă – cât de mult e prea mult? E un obicei la ortodocși – dacă îți zice un singur om Stop, pui stop.

Eu nu sunt tocmai fan al acestui aspect – țin mai mult la ce se poate face, la potențial, la necunoscutul care apare în urma creației, decât țin ca imaginea mea să fie de om docil, ascultător și supus.

Prefer un grup polarizat între Da și Nu, decât mesaje oprite barbar, pe placul unora din grup (sunt sigur, nu al tuturor). Prefer 5 oameni foarte fericiți și 5 foarte supărați, decât 30 indiferenți.

Pe grupurile ortodoxe nu e, însă, așa. „Hai să facem un referendum”. Bineînțeles, iese o varză, nu faci referendum pe lucruri pe care nu se face referendum. Matematica nu e o dilemă, și întotdeauna din 30 de oameni unii vor zice Da și alții vor zice Nu. Nu caut să plac tuturor.

M-am supus deciziei, desigur. Dar e un pic greșit, în opinia mea.

Interpretarea mea asupra textului de mai sus e că autorul se referă probabil la lucruri precum Decalogul, unele legi cu pe cine să iubești (Dumnezeu și oameni), și alte principii generale, precum Fericirile sau faimoasa Epistola întâia către Corinteni a Sfântului Apostol Pavel :: Capitolul 13.

Dar citatul mi se pare foarte frumos, și merită cugetat asupra lui.

Mutări-surpriză

La șah contează mult mutările neașteptate.

O piesă din spate, care nu e evident că intră în joc.

O mutare de cal neprevăzută.

Un nebun care apăra un punct și care, prin mutare, schimbă regulile.

Sunt cele mai frecvente metode de a câștiga/pierde un meci, la nivelul la care joc eu – o mutare neprevăzută.

Cum poți crea astfel de contexte? Plasând piesele proprii în poziții avantajoase, și evitând ca adversarul să facă același lucru.

Da, poate meciurile la nivel mare se câștigă cu strategie.

La nivelul meu, însă, se câștigă prin tactici, în principal.

While the statement may be exaggerated, there’s some truth in it.

It’s true, in my opinion, that if you read you expand your horizon, you find out about new things, you experience the world in ways others can only … dream. :)

Reading can do wonders for one’s education.

I don’t believe in a one-fits-all scenario. Other ways of art consumption can bring good results.

Also, there’s a difference between consumption and creation.

There’s one thing to read 100 books in a year and another thing to write 300 blog posts a year.

There’s one thing to read a blog and another one to keep a journal.

There’s one thing to read an article and another one to post a tweet.
