About the bounce rate

About the bounce rate

I’ve seen people worrying about bounce rates around 60%. I think there are two types of bounce rate:

  • Some people might search for various terms, go to your web site via the search engines, find what they are looking for, and then go away. I think this is a good type of bounce rate.
  • Others might look for something, get to your web site, but be dissatisfied, and go back to Google. For those people, I think the bounce rate indicates that something is wrong.

I would advise you to think about these two types of bounce rates when analyzing.

Another thing – some types of businesses have a high bounce rate due to their niche. It’s normal for a publishing web site to have a high bounce rate. A mortgage calculator which refreshes the page after it performs calculations, though, shouldn’t have a high bounce rate.

Exact Match Domains (EMDs) in SEO – does it still pay to use them?

Exact Match Domains (EMDs) in SEO - does it still pay to use them?

What are EMD (Exact Match Domains)?

„An EMD is a domain name that precisely matches a search query that will likely drive traffic to your website. For instance, if you call your website BuyCheapJeansOnline.com.
The search query ‘buy cheap jeans’ is a lucrative search term, and if you call your website this then you might assume this is a short cut to the top of a search engine results page (SERP).

Should you use them? Yes, you can still use them, but their value is declining, and you might want to consider going for a branded name in your domain.

Sometimes, you can measure the wrong types of KPIs

Sometimes, you can measure the wrong types of KPIs

Some of the KPIs in Search Engine Optimization are plain and clear: most people, for example, measure the ranking positions for a few keywords. Or they look at the overall traffic. Or they analyze the number of links. But can you improve on measuring those KPIs? I believe so, and in this article I will present some pitfalls in measuring only some KPIs, as opposed to having a global view.
