I’ve seen Bohemian Rhapsody (2018). Some ideas?
- I realized, watching the movie, that I care a lot about a performer and very little about the personal life. Sure, it matters to some extent what kind of life Steve Jobs had, but I enjoy using a product based on its usefulness to me. Similarly, I enjoy a lot some of the songs of Queen, but whether I admire what they did in their private life or not is another matter.
- I enjoyed where they put the songs in the movie. Very well-chosen detail!
- Sometimes, I see on the Internet famous paintings recreated in real-life by various people. Or famous characters brought up to life (for example, in Disneyland, or in cosplay). It strikes me how much the brain can fill in the gaps between what’s the original and what’s a copy. Similarly, in this movie, I had the same feeling, I was amazed by the fact.
- I found the characters played well, the songs were nice, I enjoyed the atmosphere.
- Some scenes felt unrealistic, meant to create emotion. I enjoyed these forced not-so-real situations.
- What I liked less are the emotions the movie brought me. It was a smart movie, it felt real, I empathized with the characters, but I didn’t feel much emotion, outside the songs.
- All-in-all, I give the movie an 8/10. It has all the components of being a good movie, except that it’s neither smart (I didn’t mention this above, because this was supposed to be a realistic movie, so, generally this wouldn’t be a requirement; but, when I make the overall evaluation, this criterion still matters) nor emotional. I’m sure that for a lot of other viewers, for whom the behind-the-scenes of Queen matters, this might not be a valid reasoning, but for me it – this movie was not emotional, although it had all the ingredients of possibly being so.
- Generally, when a movie has 8/10 on IMDb, I tend to give it a 9. Here, only an 8.
