Whenever people ask others to do CSR activities, they tend to say, „You should CSR because not only is it something good for everyone, but it also specifically benefits you.”
I don’t think that’s the optimal approach. To me, this is a bit like telling a friend, „For helping me, I’ll pay you, but I’ll only pay you 50% of the market value.”
If I were to ask a friend for a service, I’d either pay them full or pay them nothing. That 50% is demotivating.
This is the same for CSR – people either do things for a direct benefit (profit), or for the sake of doing something good.
If you tell someone, „do CSR, and you’ll also partially benefit from this yourself”, it might prove a negative motivator.
