There’s a difference

miuenski miuenski - password changed

I went to London in 2015. When I went there, I had some job interviews.

People assumed I was the same as a regular Londoner – I had hands, eyes, and energy. What was different was my culture and my habits.

I wasn’t raised in the UK, and although I had the same body as everyone else, my culture, way of thinking, and education were all different.

In some aspects, I might have been better; in others, worse.

But it’s not the same as hiring Breda, who was raised in Romania, the Netherlands, or the UK: different countries, different „Breda”s.

It seems simple, but some people don’t observe this.

I must not fear ― Frank Herbert, Dune

Nick Kenrick - I feared the dark Until I saw the beauty of the starlight

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”  ― Frank Herbert, Dune

I like this quote. :)

Top moment for making a change

GT#2...Off permanently - family time

When you meet someone on the street, those very first moments are key to the meeting’s success.

If you want to give up a bad habit, how you behave when temptation kicks in matters.

If you want to remember something, you might want to associate it with a key event.

When you look into a dog’s eyes, they tend to perceive this as a sign of aggressiveness or mating.

That very small step of the encounter is key. What you do initially matters, just when the meeting moment starts.

The last entrance of actors in theater plays

MOȘ NICHIFOR - Teatrul Act

You go to a theater play and see this – actors play, and, at the very end, they come back on the stage for some final applause.

I like this a lot – actors might be upset, happy, evil, or too enthusiastic in a play. And, when they return at the end, you get a few seconds to feel how they are.

If an actor plays a negative role, you see it in the end as happy. If someone is too enthusiastic, you see them as calmer or whatever they are.

I like this.

Gigi Becali:
– Bine, mă. Zi, ce vrei?!

More sleep

Hari K Patibanda - A White-eye mouthful with a berry

We Don’t Need More Sleep
“No, we don’t need more sleep. It’s our souls that are tired, not our bodies. We need nature. We need magic. We need adventure. We need freedom. We need truth. We need stillness. We don’t need more sleep, we need to wake up and live.”
Brooke Hampton

I like to think that in order to do more things, some concessions need to be made. We should still sleep, but at times we need to do other things.

There are occasions when sleep is not that good.

Arguments

Hari K Patibanda - A Pair of Wood Sandpipers fighting for the perch

Three stories:

  • A client is upset with me. I get defensive and try to present the situation.
  • A person who doesn’t like an argument I make is aggressive. I refuse to reply.
  • I posted a photo on 9Gag; I got an aggressive comment. I ignored the aggressiveness and tried to present something optimistic.

I think the latter option is the best. Try to find something good in an argument.

Sometimes, in arguments, I have two opposing tendencies:

  • To reply to everything that is said.
  • To not reply to something that is said aggressively.

I recently found a better option – reply just partially and try to improve on the conversation.

And perhaps not get offended easily? (easier said than done)

How to read news from people/pages on Facebook?

BRICK 101 - Brik Book | LEGO Compatible MacBook Case

Sometimes, I talk to people saying one of the following:

  • „Facebook constantly feeds me with lots of advertising”;
  • „Facebook only rarely, if ever, shows me your messages.”

Sure, if you go to Facebook.com and allow Facebook to determine what is essential for you, then you’ll have the above issues.

How to fix this? Two solutions:

  • Unfollow most people; I only follow a handful of people;
  • Instead of allowing Facebook to create a newsfeed for me, I visit the people/entities profiles/pages; so, I don’t read Facebook.com, but I read, for example, Facebook.com/undeiesiminconstanta – I periodically visit URLs like these. I have created bookmarks and a folder for those bookmarks, and, with various periodicity, I visit those URLs.

A house by the beach

Pasăre la mare, pe plajă

I see people deciding where to build a house in Romania. And people constantly choose places far from the sea. I even know of a family who bought a new place, but not by the sea, but around 30 minutes – one-hour drive from the sea.

„Why would you do this?” I keep asking myself.

I’ve lived for most of my life by the sea, at a 20/30-minute walk from the sea (10 minutes by car).

The air is fresh, you can choose to find a place not far away from a city, you can get an urban lifestyle and a closeness to nature.

There are only a few downsides to living by the sea, but I consider living by the seaside as an (almost) free ticket to being happy.
