We start the conference at 7 PM

Sometimes, you see the agenda at some conferences: „We start the conference at 7 PM”.

And you go there, and it actually starts a bit later, 10 or 15 minutes later.

I used to organize a series of events, and when we started announcing, „We will start at 7 PM,” but we actually started at 7:10 – 7:15 PM (so 10/15 minutes later), people would get accustomed to this and would start arriving late.

The solution? Start on time; people will appreciate this and be there at 7 PM sharp.

Also, if some people are late, consider starting with something less important. Introductions, general overview, a small chat with the audience, anything is better than waiting for 10/15 minutes.

When it comes to ending a conference, meeting, seminar, etc., people tend to be very strict—”We will definitely end the event at 20:30 PM sharp.” I would consider applying the same strictness to starting the event.

If you need to have a prior time to the event for registration, announce it like this: „The event will start at 7 PM sharp, but since 6:30 PM, you can come to the location and do networking, register, and interact with us”.

I remember I once saw a show on TV, sometimes from 1997 to 1999 (I think).

It said that at some point, we’ll be able to watch the TV shows on demand.

I wouldn’t have imagined that I’d likely no longer watch TV but mostly watch things on my PC.

I remember how it was in the first years of using MP3s—when playing an MP3 on my computer, I couldn’t do much else on the PC.

An MP3 took some space; there was hardly (pun intended) any space on hard drives at that time.

We live in the future and tend not to appreciate its value.

Swearing censorship

Sometimes, on television shows, they censor certain words.

But they know how to do this, so it’s not hard at all to get what is being said.

If kids watch the show, they might get the word, while the mature audience should be able to enjoy the show fully.

The thing is – I don’t want to watch a TV show where guests are allowed to swear.

If I remember correctly, Andrei Pleșu, talking to Andrei Gheorghe, said something like, „I choose not to swear; if I would swear all the time, then swearing would lose its power; swearing is fine as long as it’s the exception; swearing only has power because it’s the exception, not the rule; if I swear constantly, swearing loses its power.”

I think swearing makes things sound bad. It’s fine when it’s an exception, but not so much when it’s the rule.

There are some TV shows that I don’t watch – way too much swearing for my taste.

I liked Francis of Assisi (1961).

I found that in the movie the main character was like a super-man. A real-life hero. I could find no flaws in him.

I don’t remember seeing so clearly a character to whom I can’t object anything.

I enjoyed the movie.

Also, there are some old movies that are more difficult to watch. I found this movie easy to see, despite its age.
