– Speak English!
– I can’t!
– You can, you do speak English!
– Yes, but not in a poem.
Not like that.
Yes, I can understand concepts,
I can formulate ideas,
I can demonstrate something,
I generally understand a lot of the texts.
(though, paradoxically, not the poems/songs)
But writing things,
Choosing the right word,
Speaking in metaphors,
Making connections,
For all of those things, I’m much better in Romanian.
While it is possible, to some degree, to write poems in English,
They would be so much worse than those in Romanian.
Even writing a normal article in English is a bit more difficult.
Also, have a look at this poem – almost no emotion,
It’s all thinking, logical, and rational.
How could I ever have a loud and emotional argument in English?
(when all English is about logical argument)
– Write, and you’ll get better at it!
– This is sound advice, and I’ll sleep on it,
But, for now, I’ll write most of my poems in Romanian.
