Poem: „Do it like everyone else!” – by Olivian Breda

I was told to „Do it like everyone else!”, one time.

Another time „… Try to fit in!”.

I poorly followed this advice

(like Gala Galaction liked to write).

First of all, there’s really no fun in fitting in.

Then, you won’t feel you’re living,

Every day will be like the other,

Every gesture you do you know it will be someone else’s first,

Every action you take will be a copy.

There are no good awards for 2nd place.

The first rule in marketing

(and, if I may add, in life)

Is to differentiate.

Then, differentiate for the better,

Create something not only new,

But also better.

Being a copycat

Is not a lovely place to be in.

It’s not easy to do things differently,

The persons I talked at the beginning of this blog post

Were probably exasperated by my

„Nope, I’ll not do it like everyone else

And I’ll certainly not fit in”.

But, boy-oh!-boy, did I learn some things

While trying to be as unique as I could!

If you don’t know anything in life,

If you’re just discovering things,

You might feel like you’re doing something new,

But it’s just ignorance of you.

On another hand, knowing all the people doing X,

And you insist on doing X, as opposite of Y,

Might not be a good strategy.
