Poem: „Flai”, or „FLaif”, or „Fail. On purpose!” – by Olivian Breda

While in school,

I used to take tests which didn’t matter, at times.

A grade which won’t matter,

A test which I won’t care about.

And my strategy for these tests

Was the following – learn for the test,

Prepare, don’t ignore it.

But, if during the test you’re almost convinced the answer is A and 25% it’s B,

Write B on the test.

Fail, on purpose.

You see, some teachers used to use this against their students:

„Oh, student X is so silly!

He thinks the answer is B!

Look how silly X is!

Class, why don’t you join me in laughing about X!

Ha! Ha! Ha!”

The thing is, this kind of gesture would stop most students

In trying to fail on purpose,

In exploring,

In testing.

Most students would say:

„Look what happened to X

When he made a mistake!

I’d better not make silly mistakes on tests!”.

Me, on another hand, for silly tests

I’d do silly mistakes.

But on really important tests,

For things that mattered,

For things of high importance,

Then I’d give 110%,

I’d be focused, and go all in.

I have annoying memories,

Of people making fun of my errors,

Of expecting a level of 100% all the time.

The thing is if you only  aim for 100%,

You’re most of the time at 90%.

Why not go for 70-80% all the time,

On purpose!,

And aim for 110% when it really matters.

Go to the limits!

When I write on my blog,

I generally write junk articles.

I try my best to come up with good articles,

But if I have a half-smart, half-stupid

(perhaps even more than half stupid)

Idea, I’ll go ahead and publish it.

By writing, I’ll become better.

Sure, I have a „Top Posts” category on my blog,

I have a list of recommended blog posts,

But this doesn’t stop me in publishing junk.

Failure is good.

Go ahead, fail, you’ll certainly learn from it,

And there’s no magic try.

Try it until you make it.

Then, after a lot of fails, you’ll publish some more things

To be recommended to others.
