Hello, in this blog post I analyze the web site teri.ro.
Design
+The web site has a lot of „air”; I don’t get a feeling of a crowded web site, which is very nice;
1. The photo on the main page is very nice; how about making it clickable, and when I click on it, I get details on the child? Or even the product in the picture;
2. The right menu seems a bit crowded;
Usability
+I like it so much that you’ve given name to products, it’s very nice to see a product with a Romanian child name; very good!
1. I would specify if the products have VAT or not;
2. I typically right click on a photo to see properties or to open a link in a new tab; when I right click anything on your web site, I get a warning; uuuuuuuu, now that’s bad! Why is that?
a. You start with the assumption that anytime I right click on your web site, I want to steal something from your site;
b. I’ve lost the ability to right click on your web site – very bad, it’s a necessary function;
c. You’ve won nothing; it’s so very easy to steal content from any web site on the web, be it protected or not; you don’t get any protection by using this method, but you may potentially lose customers;
3. (+idea) I’d love to see this functionality: a box in which I insert my phone number, and instead of me calling you, I leave my phone number on that box and you call me; very useful function;
4. How about having a link for subscribing to the RSS feed with comments of each blog post?
Copywriting
+You speak a good Romanian, congratulations for that!
1. I don’t think „vizualiza” is a very nice word; I’d switch it to another one, more accessible to the average visitor;
2. I miss the use of diacritics on your web site;
3. Why do you write „Lei” with capital?
4. You say, very polite:
„Bine ați venit”,
„Coșul dvs. este gol”,
and then you switch to coloquial:
„Afișează coș”;
why is that?
5. I would avoid using abbreviations for „dumneavoastră”;
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
+The homepage has its own description, well done!
1. I would put more emphasis on the ALT titles for the photos, there are photos which either don’t have ALT text, or it’s not in Romanian;
2. The title of the homepage:
„Teri.ro :: timpul familiei. – (Powered by CubeCart)”
can be further improved with more keywords;
Structure of information
+The structure of the items on categories in the left menu is well done;
1. I’d love to see a sitemap, it would help me see the whole web site within a click or two;
2. I’d love to view the promotions on the homepage even more promoted than they are right now;
3. I’d like to see a call-to-action on each page;
4. (+idea) I see no pages for „How to order?”, „How to buy?”, „Delivery options” and I advise you to create such pages;
5. (+idea) I would love to see some articles or perhaps even a blog with tutorials on furniture safety; it would make me come again on your web site and I would subscribe to receiving information on your site;
The newsletter box
+I like the positioning, somewhere in the lower part of the web site; this makes the viewer first have a glimpse on what’s on the web site and only afterwards, after it’s convinced that the site is very nice, he has the option to subscribe to the newsletter;
1. I would translate „newsletter” into Romanian – „flux de știri”, „lista promoțiilor”, „cele mai noi produse”; and instead of „subscription” („abonare”), I’d use a more active verb, similar to „Receive in your email our latest promotions”;
2. It’s a bit wrong to subscribe to the newsletters (notice the final s); singular form is preferred;
3. I’d translate the „Go” button;
4. Below the newsletter I’d put a link to a page with explanations:
a. How will I be able to unsubscribe;
b. How often do you expect to send newsletters?
c. An archive with the past newsletters;
d. How will you use my e-mail address in other purposes than pure e-mail newsletters?
e. What are my benefits from the newsletter?
The footer area
+I like the fact that you kept the links to both the theme author and the Content Management System (CMS) service provider;
1. The „Your Store Name” indicates me that you haven’t changed the name of the site in that place; you should check your CMS documentation for details;
2. You can save one line in the footer by making the two lines be on the same line;
3. My suggestion is to translate the text in the footer into Romanian; another option is to right-align the footer;
About us
+It’s very nice to have a small history of the company in there;
1. I’d add a few things about yourselves (CV, experience) and your children (age);
2. Photos on this page do wonders (they can be with yourselves or your store; an external view of the store helps very much your viewers to have an idea on how does the company looks like);
3. I’d put the full names in there;
4. Very interesting to see would be some case studies with your clients – let’s say there is one person who is searching for information on the Internet, reaches your web site … then what? Present what happens to a specific person;
5. (+idea) I’d love to see comments of your clients on the „About us” page; people should be allowed to add both positive and negative comments about your web site;
Contact page
+You gave a lot of data about your web site, which helps building trust; well done!
1. The first sentence on the page should end with a dot;
2. If referring to the contact person, it’s best to put the first name … first; so, for contact person, you should have „Andrei Cosmovici”, instead of „Cosmovici Andrei”; if there are legal reasons for presenting it like this, then it may be fine to leave it like this;
3. I’m confused; the banner says that you can take orders Monday – Friday 9-18 (and some time on Saturdays), while the contact page the program is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday in the afternoon, and the rest of the days in the morning; now, I know that the schedule for the store can be different than the schedule for taking orders, but you should specify this very clear, right now it’s confusing;
4. I would add on the contact page a map with the location, perhaps even some pictures with it;
5. I think the bank account should be listed with the fiscal data;
6. How about a contact form?
The logo
+When I look at your logo, I immediately get the feeling of a childhood time; I like your logo a lot;
1. (+idea) The front wheel, in the logo, has some resemblance to a smiley face; perhaps you can put a bit more emphasis on this and really make it a smiley;
2. The title can be interpreted as both „Teri” and „Feri”, although this is a minor issue;
3. The motto is written with a too small font to my taste;
4. Why doesn’t „timpul” start with a capital letter?
5. While I’m very fond of your logo, I can’t say the same thing about your motto; what do you mean with „The time of/for the family?”; is time spent on Teri.ro the only time dedicated to the family? Do you wish to say that nowadays we can have more time for the family? It’s unclear and the message is a bit weak;
The header advertisement
+It’s very nice that you have not only listed the time you can be contacted, but also specified a time; good!
1. Why did you write „Relatii Clienti” with An Initial Capital? It’s Unnecessary;
2. Same for „Vineri” and „Sâmbătă”;
3. You have used diacritics for „Sâmbătă” and not for any other word in the page; why is that?
4. I would specify which phone is on Vodafone network and which phone is on Orange network;
5. You wrote the phone number like this:
0724.719.179;
My preference is for this kind of writing:
0724-719.179;
And if you have international clients, also:
(004)0724.719.179 or
(+4)0724.719.179;
The menu bar
+You use colors which are similar to the others on the web site, very good for consistency;
1. The two types of green in the background split right at the middle of the text, which make the text a bit difficult to read; there are two solutions:
a. Make the switch from one color to another smoother;
b. Make the switch a bit higher, or lower, so it won’t interfere with the text;
2. I’d make the divider between the menu items a bit more obvious;
The search function
+I like the positioning of the search box, upper right box, very nice!
1. Perhaps it would be better to write „Cauta” like „OK”, in bold;
2. The advanced search link is not obvious;
The categories on the left
+I like the organization of products in the left categories, I can get a good understanding on the products you offer;
1. It’s much better to say:
„o persoană”
than
„1 persoană”;
2. It’s a bit hard for me to understand what:
„saltele cocos burete cocos” means;
3. To me, the link to all the products is more important than the others, so I’d put it on the first position;
4. I think the categories occupy too much vertical estate, I’d look for solutions (such as shrinking the vertical space between two categories) to make it smaller;
5. One category is:
„pătuțuri”,
while another one is:
„paturi copii și părinți”;
To me, the first one and the second one should be distinctly sepparated by their name (so, the first one could be „paturi doar pentru copii”);
6. The names of the categories („La plimbare”) are not clickable in the left menu; all of them, except the last name, „Toate produsele”; it’s very confusing, and it’s not the expected behavior of a category;
The page of a random category
+Each product has its own photo, which makes it easy to identify;
1. The breadcrumbs:
have an atypical look; it’s not very clear, when I look at them, that they are breadcrumbs;
2. (+idea) I would expect that within a category I have:
a. More sorting options (I want to be able to sort the products by criteria such as: number of views of a certain page – how many times has a product been displayed -, number of items being bought, how many times has a product been sent to friends, how many times has the instructions of a product have been printed, etc.);
b. Filtering options – if I wish to quickly filter products that aren’t within a price range, or don’t have certain characteristics, I want to be able to do so;
3. (+idea) When I’m browsing through a category, it would be interesting to suggest me other categories for me to look at (categories that are relevant to the current view);
The page of a random product
+I like the idea of clearly displaying the price of transporting for a certain idea; well done!
1. In this sentence:
„Fiti primul care comenteaza acest produs!”
a. It’s a mix between a polite addressing („fiți”) and a coloquial one („comentează”) which is rather disturbing;
b. Has a strange way of wording things – „comment a product”; how can I comment a product? It sounds strange; Question: „Is this a commented product? No, this product is uncommented”; you should fix this;
2. If a product doesn’t have a comment already, you display two times the text with an suggestion to comment:
If I were you, I would reduce the number of times you suggest your visitors to comment upon a product to just one;
3. Are you sure that coconut is written in Romanian like this? „nuca de kokos”; QQQ
4. Sometimes you write like this:
„120x60x7 cm”,
while sometimes you write:
„120 x 60 cm”;
it’s a bit confusing;
Generated ideas
1. I’d love to see comments of your clients on the „About us” page; people should be allowed to add both positive and negative comments about your web site;
2. I would expect that within a category I have:
a. More sorting options (I want to be able to sort the products by criteria such as: number of views of a certain page – how many times has a product been displayed -, number of items being bought, how many times has a product been sent to friends, how many times has the instructions of a product have been printed, etc.);
b. Filtering options – if I wish to quickly filter products that aren’t within a price range, or don’t have certain characteristics, I want to be able to do so;
3. When I’m browsing through a category, it would be interesting to suggest me other categories for me to look at (categories that are relevant to the current view);

8. I would love to find you on social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn; a presence on those web sites will do you good;
______
Bottom line: teri.ro is a great web site!
