Voting, in my opinion, matters mostly as a personal example. It’s good to go and vote, that gesture matters, it’s fine to publicly say who you’re voting for, it’s OK to help your favorite party in any way that you can (time, resources, energy). It’s also good to be informed of the main offers.
But, a vote, other than that, has only marginal importance. Even when the vote difference is tight, it’s rarely the case of a single vote making the difference.
Also, in Romania it matters more, in my opinion, to vote for a person or party who is the least corrupt, rather than vote for an entity that has values similar to yours. In practice, in Romania, political parties, generally, don’t follow nor do what they say they’ll do.
Sometimes, you want to help people, you care, you get involved, you apply all the magic you can, from your will to your energy and resources.
And, at the end of the day, instead of caring, you prove you actually scare people off.
I tend to carry a lot of weight on my shoulders. I worry, I think about the past, I reanalyze what I did at a certain time, I try to think what’s the best option in situation X.
I think these are two opposite sides of the same thing:
- If you care, you show love, you get involved. And that’s fine.
- If you care, you also tend to think a lot about a lot of things and put worry on you. And that’s less than fine.
I like to care, and I don’t like to carry weight (to stress about things). But these two come together.
“I couldn’t care less!”. Yes, you could. But – should you?
The dilemma is open.
I play chess mostly for developing my ability to think into the future. Not too much, I don’t think all that much, but the process of “If I move X vs. Y, there will be consequences” is great.
I allow myself to make a lot of mistakes, I prefer this approach, to test & try a lot of things, rather than aim for the “perfect” match.
Sometimes, I make silly mistakes, and that’s fine with me.
On another note, I think that my arts blog is going well, helping me develop other aspects of my life, like emotions.
I like to consume media, articles, books, movies, music, podcasts, 9Gag.
These all combine very well.
I don’t think that the spirit enters the world just through reading book. But I do think that some solutions work better for the spirit than others. Here’s one – chess.
I once encountered a situation when someone told me about another person – “Person X can think strategically!”. But, really, can he!?
You see, there’s a difference between thinking strategically and saying you have a strategy.
I happen to know person X and, yes, that person can justify very well his actions. But does that person really think strategically every step? I don’t think so.
I think what’s most likely to happen is that person X can speak very well, and pick a small reason for doing action X.
I don’t think that’s a strategy, to me it’s tactics, with very good PR.
I don’t think that’s bad, but the distinction between “X has a strategy” and “X does tactics, and knows how to present them well / do PR” is important.
PS: I think, it’s mostly about emotions.
If I think strategically, but don’t know how to speak very well, I’m not clear and persuasive in my communications, I will leave a poor impression, certainly not that of a strategic thinker.
On another hand, if another person acts based on tactics, but can speak in a persuasive/clear manner, that person will leave a good impression on strategy, even if it might not be the case.
